Strange timing for Lynch to call Samuel.
There are a lot of decisions that need to be made this week—big ones, to be exact—especially for NFL General Managers.
The trade deadline was on Tuesday of this week, and many coaches, players, and fans were holding their breath to see what sort of player movement would unfold in the NFL. It turns out that many of the major trades had already gone down.
Davante Adams left the Las Vegas Raiders for the New York Jets, Amari Cooper left behind the Cleveland Browns to go to the Buffalo Bills, and countless others.
One NFL star who had a bit of a scare was 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. It’s okay to laugh about it now, but Samuel got a call from 49ers GM John Lynch ahead of the trade deadline.
Samuel was filming a commercial for “My Cause, My Cleats” at Levi’s Stadium when he got a call from Lynch. Samuel broke down how the situation unfolded on his show “Cleats and Convos.”
“I look at my phone like ‘Yo, why is he calling me right now?'” Samuel said. “I answer the phone, he’s like ‘Yeah, man, my daughter’s going to be the one running the NFL commercial that you’re doing today.’ I’m like ‘Don’t be calling me.’ … I don’t think he was thinking about the time he was calling me. I looked down at my phone like ‘Why is this man calling me right now?'”
Samuel wasn’t too uptight or worried about the incoming phone call from Lynch. The 49ers star player knew he wasn’t anywhere near the trading block. Still, it was strange timing.
