The Kansas City Chiefs remain the only undefeated team in the NFL through 9 weeks. The team’s undefeated record has irked the fanbases of other teams, especially the ones who came close to beating the reigning Super Bowl champions but fell short by a few points. It has been natural for fans to blame the game officials for making calls favorable to the Chiefs.
Every time Kansas City gets a favorable call during the final moments of a game, fans rooting against them lose it because they believe that the referees have a soft spot for the NFL’s golden boy ‘Patrick Mahomes.’ However, diehard Chiefs fan and analyst for FOX Sports, Nick Wright put this notion to rest on the Dan Le Batard Show.
Nick Wright believes that the Chiefs’ consistency and success have irked people to the extent that they would rather see them get no calls at all.
The analyst passionately argued as he wore a hoodie with the words ‘Kansas City vs. Everybody.’ He is not wrong as the Chiefs get more hate than love when compared to any other reigning Super Bowl champions in the world.
The Kansas City Chiefs will look to win their third straight Super Bowl in historic fashion
There are a few reasons for that. The first would be Taylor Swift‘s relationship with Travis Kelce. While their bond has a separate fanbase, the ‘Brad’s, Dad’s, and Chad’s’ as monikered by Swift referring to the orthodox strictly-football crowd has not been pleased with the amount of coverage that the pop star has been getting.
Another reason is Patrick Mahomes. Irrespective of how talented and great the quarterback has been, this season he continues to struggle. The 2024 Chiefs’ are undefeated not because of their offense but their defense. He has 1,942 yards for 11 touchdowns and 9 interceptions yet he continues to be in the running to win the MVP award.
All of these factors do not make the Chiefs a fan favorite. This is why when KC does get calls that favor it during crucial moments, it further irks its critics. Irrespective of the hate, the team continues to dominate, and the second half of the season should be a smooth cruise for them which gives them a good opportunity to go undefeated for the rest of the year.
