Shedeur Sanders has the Colorado Buffaloes in College Football Playoff contention, and the quarterback is already generating buzz ahead of the NFL draft. Sanders is in the race to be the first quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL draft.
The star quarterback has thrown for 2,882 yards, 24 touchdowns and 6 interceptions while completing 72.9% of his passes in the first nine games of the 2024 season. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith floated a wild idea that would put Sanders on one of the biggest sports franchises in the world.
Smith is urging the Dallas Cowboys to “tank” in an attempt to draft Sanders and lure Coach Prime to Big D.
“I believe that the Dallas Cowboys should tank the rest of the season, get the No. 1 overall pick so you can draft Shedeur Sanders and … hire Prime Time Deion Sanders as your head coach,” Smith noted during a Nov. 11 edition of “First Take.”
This scenario is a long shot for several reasons. Namely, the Cowboys just signed Dak Prescott to a four-year, $240 million contract extension.
Even if the Cowboys wanted Sanders, they would likely need to trade up to have a chance to select the star quarterback. Heading into Week 11, the Cowboys are slated to have the No. 11 pick in the NFL draft.
Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling’s latest mock draft has the Las Vegas Raiders landing Sanders with the No. 8 pick.
