LANDOVER, Md. — The Pittsburgh Steelers limited Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels on Sunday in their 28-27 win. Daniels had lit up most defenses, but Pittsburgh gave him more trouble than most, as he did not throw a touchdown and ran for just five yards on three attempts.
So, after the game, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked about Daniels’ comparisons to Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Jackson and the Steelers play each other twice per year in the AFC North. And with Jackson coming to Acrisure Stadium in a week to play for the division lead, Tomlin shut down the comparisons of Daniels to Jackson.
“Man, be real slow comparing people to Lamar Jackson. That’s a multi-time MVP. That’s Mr. Jackson. We’ll see Mr. Jackson in a few days,” Tomlin said.
Jackson might be on pace for the MVP Award for the third time in his career. The Ravens sit at 7-3 after a win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night Football. With the Steelers at 7-2, they are just a half-game behind Pittsburgh, but a win by the Steelers can separate them by a game and a half.
Daniels, meanwhile, is a shoo-in for Offensive Rookie of the Year. He has led the Commanders to a roaring start offensively, though they sometimes struggled against the Steelers.
Either way, Daniels still hit big plays against the Steelers and hung tough, even if the Commanders fell just short in Sunday’s clash.
For the Steelers, all eyes will turn to that game against the Ravens, and what will be their first AFC North game of the entire season.
