Novak Djokovic is set to retire in a modest penthouse in Belgrade, shunning the allure of a multi-million-pound mega-mansion.

At 37, the Serbian superstar continues to show he’s still got it. Despite not clinching a title at the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon or the US Open in 2024, Djokovic bagged his first career Golden Slam at the Paris Olympics, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the gold medal match.

With this victory added to his 24 career Grand Slams, it’s no wonder many fans hail Djokovic as the greatest tennis player ever. With an impressive career on the courts and lucrative sponsorship deals with brands like Lacoste, Waterdrop, Head and Asics over the years, Djokovic has amassed a reported net worth of around £28.5million ($37.2M).

But when it comes to choosing his retirement home, the tennis ace has opted for a humble penthouse in his hometown of Belgrade. So, what does Djokovic’s retirement pad look like, what features does it boast, and how much did it set him back?

A breathtaking penthouse with views of Lake Pavlova

Thanks to his successful tennis career, Djokovic has amassed a portfolio of properties worldwide. His first purchase was a charming Monte Carlo residence for an undisclosed sum shortly after turning pro in 2003.

While details about the property remain scarce, it’s known to be perched on a hill with views over the Mediterranean Sea. In 2017, the tennis star snapped up two properties in New York City’s trendy SoHo district for a reported sum exceeding $10 million (£7.6m).

He also owns a £4.4m penthouse in Miami and a Moroccan-style property in Marbella, which he purchased in 2020 for £7.6m. However, his retirement home is a modest penthouse apartment overlooking the breathtaking Lake Pavlova.

Djokovic acquired the apartment for a mere £518,000 in 2018, but it’s believed that he has invested in modernising the three-bedroom pad in his homeland. The property features three bathrooms, an en-suite, a spacious living area, a stunning terrace, and a swimming pool.

Close by, Djokovic also has the renowned Restaurant Novak, established by his parents. Brimming with memorabilia from his illustrious career, including photos, tennis balls, and even trophies, the chic eatery pays tribute to some of Djokovic’s most remarkable achievements.

Djokovic’s love for his hometown shines brightly, reflected in the Novak Tennis Centre built back in 2009. Boasting 14 courts, it’s a haven for tennis enthusiasts, both local and visiting alike. The tennis maestro, fresh from Olympic glory, was greeted by a sea of adoring fans in the streets of Belgrade to celebrate his triumph.

Addressing the crowd from the City Hall balcony, an emotional Djokovic shared: “I have had the honour and pleasure of being on this special balcony several times in my career, but each time you surprise and inspire me more and more. This is the most beautiful feeling that an athlete from Serbia can experience.”
