At 7-1, the Golden State Warriors are one of the very best teams in the NBA and appear to be firing on all cylinders. On Wednesday, Stephen Curry and company beat the defending champion Boston Celtics, 118-112, in what was seen as a chance for Jayson Tatum to get revenge on Steve Kerr for being benched during much of te Olympics, but the Warriors got the last laugh.
Between stellar play from Curry, Buddy Hield, Draymond Green, Kevon Looney, and the rest of the roster, conventional wisdom says that the Warriors will ride their momentum into the playoffs, but that might not be true.
Since last season, the Warriors have been included in swirling–and often outrageous–trade rumors. To start the season, Kerr has sued 12-man lineups to much success, but the Warriors could sacrifice draft picks and depth pieces while their value is at an all-time high and bring in a star.
At least one NBA reporter seems to think the Warriors will be active on the trade market this season.
“They may not want to do anything with this roster since it’s so good, but the Warriors are the biggest candidate in my mind to make a trade,” said NBA Insider Brian Windhorst on ESPN. “They tried to make a trade for LeBron James last trade deadline. I know it was one of the most amazing stories that (Adrian Wojnarowski) and Romona (Shelburne)reported all last year…this is a team that has an itchy trigger finger trying to make a big deal.”
The Warriors swung and missed on James, Markkanen, Paul George, and Karl-Anthony Towns this offseason, but have been linked to Brandon Ingram, Jimmy Butler, and even Giannis Antetokounmpo, who are all on the trade block.
While the Warriors could ride their deep roster into the postseason, the front office could make a massive splash and add an All-Star next to Curry in the twilight of his career.
