“I was actually leaving Miami at that time,” Wade said. “I didn’t think there was nobody out there that we could get was gonna help us get to that level.”
Wade said that since it was the free-agency period, he wanted to explore his options in terms of joining a winning team. This led him to consider the Bulls. However, things changed when James got in touch with him.
“But I got that call man,” Wade added. “I got a call from No. 6.”
While it’s fun to imagine what Dwyane Wade and Derrick Rose could have accomplished, it’s hard to argue against the Miami Heat’s success.
Wade joined with LeBron James and Chris Bosh to create a dominant trio that would make the NBA Finals every year that they were together (2011-2014). In those four years, they won two championships (2012 and 2013).
During that run, they even beat the Bulls twice in the playoffs (2010 and 2012).
Dwyane Wade shares who is on his NBA ‘Mount Rushmore’
Aside from talking about the Miami Heat’s championship days, the “OGs” hosts also asked Dwyane Wade other basketball-related things, including who was on his basketball “Mount Rushmore.”
Wade started his list by naming six-time Chicago Bulls legend and one of the NBA’s GOATs, Michael Jordan. Then, he named a fellow legendary shooting guard in Kobe Bryant.
Afterward, Wade named two players with whom he won championships: LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neal. The three-time Heat champion then joked that he would replace Shaq with Steph Curry if the legendary center kept talking.
Wade also said he named the players in no particular order (Timestamp: 1:34:00).
Dwyane Wade’s first NBA title was won with a veteran Shaquille O’Neal in 2006. Wade, Shaq and the Miami Heat faced the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals that year. The Heat lost the first two games but bounced back to win four straight.
Wade won Finals MVP, and the Heat won their first title in franchise history.
