Several NFL fans on social media have blasted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their decision to not go for a two-point conversion with under 30 seconds to go against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hindsight is always valuable, as the near-game-tying touchdown pass was the Tampa Bay offense’s last time on the field on the day in Kansas City’s 30-24 overtime win.
Buccaneers head coach Tod Bowles opted to go for a game-tying extra point instead of a possible game-winning two-point conversion, where he explained he only had ‘very minor’ thoughts about the riskier conversion.
‘We wanted to get it to overtime with the wet conditions on the field,’ Bowles said after the game. ‘We had our shots and we lost the game. Todd Bowles.
Some fans thought the move was asking to lose and only could be seen as a blunder.

‘”We want to play more football against Patrick Mahomes” do you know how stupid that sounds,’ one NFL fan said.
‘Not going for 2 here is certifiably insane.’
‘Very surprised Tampa took the XP.’
‘Go for 2!!!!! Don’t give Mahomes a chance,’ former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III said after Mayfield’s touchdown.
‘I TOLD YOU. Never play for overtime against Patrick Mahomes. THEY NEVER LEARN,’ Griffin said after the game.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was asked the same question as Bowles about not going for for the two-point conversion, where he said he was not surprised by Bowles’ call to go for the extra point.
‘No… but I’m glad he didn’t,’ Reid said of the extra point, which sent the game to overtime.

One person who knew the decision did not pan out to kick the extra point was Baker Mayfield.
After the Chiefs won the overtime coin toss, Mayfield hung his head knowing the inevitability of Kansas City.
The next time Mayfield touched the field was to congratulate Mahomes on leading the game-winning drive.
With the decision, Kansas City stays unbeaten at 8-0, while the Buccaneers now have a winning record at 4-5.
