For the past few months, Budda Baker has been one of the few names always involved in trade rumors. According to an NFL analysis, the Arizona Cardinals’ safety is projected to be pursued by the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans ahead of the deadline.

As the NFL trade deadline approaches, the Arizona Cardinals find themselves at a pivotal moment following two consecutive victories, bringing their record to 4-4. This unexpected success has prompted questions about their strategy. Baker, a free agent after this season, could attract interest, but trading significant players may undermine team morale as they pursue a playoff spot.

General manager Monti Ossenfort has emphasized a gradual rebuild since his arrival, focusing on future impact rather than immediate moves. While major trades seem unlikely, smaller acquisitions, particularly at edge rusher, could be on the table. The Cardinals have faced significant injuries, losing B.J. Ojulari and Dennis Gardeck for the season, leaving them in dire need of pass-rushing help.

Targets may include Azeez Ojulari from the Giants, who has shown promise but could command a hefty price. Alternatively, Za’Darius Smith of the Browns might be available for a minimal draft cost, given Cleveland’s cap struggles. Jadeveon Clowney of the Panthers is another option, although his performance this season has been inconsistent.

Although there’s a big chance Baker stays put in Arizona, there’s also a way for him to be moved before the deadline passes. According to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox, the teams that may be interested are the Baltimore Ravens or Houston Texans.

The Ravens should take a long look at Baker, given the struggles of their 32nd-ranked pass defense. Baltimore lost safety Geno Stone in free agency and pulled Marcus Williams from the starting lineup this past week.

The Houston Texans may also want to consider Baker. Houston has been far more effective against the pass than Baltimore (third in passing yards allowed) but has been missing safety Jimmie Ward because of a groin injury.

Budda Baker, the standout safety for the Arizona Cardinals, may not be actively traded before the deadline, especially after recent wins that bolster the team’s playoff hopes. However, with his contract expiring soon, the Cardinals could part with him for the right offer, possibly to the Ravens or Texans.

Ultimately, the Cardinals’ approach will likely balance immediate needs with long-term goals. Addressing the edge rusher position could provide a necessary boost as they aim for a playoff run, but any decision made will reflect their commitment to a sustainable rebuild while navigating the complexities of the current season. With the deadline looming, all eyes will be on how Arizona navigates this critical juncture.
