Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler shared a series of photos on Friday, showing a team Halloween celebration ahead of their games in Mexico City. The Heat are set to face the Washington Wizards on Saturday, which coincides with one of Mexico’s major holidays, Día de los Muertos.
The photos show Butler and his teammates in costume, celebrating at a party. Butler captioned the post:
“Viva Mexico.”
Pop star Camila Cabello, known for hits like “Havana,” “Never Be The Same” and “Bad Things,” commented on the post with a simple reaction:
“Yep,” Cabello wrote.
Camila Cabello was born in Cuba to a Mexican father and grew up between Cuba and Mexico. She holds Mexican citizenship and identifies as Cuban-Mexican. At age six, Cabello and her mother crossed the border from Mexico to the U.S. to settle in Miami, Florida.
Cabello attended Miami Palmetto High School but left when she was in Grade 9 to pursue her music career.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Butler has been with the Miami Heat since he joined the team in July 2019 via sign-and-trade. Heat’s game against the Wizards will tip off at 9:30 p.m. ET at Arena CDMX in Mexico City.
Jimmy Butler reveals his favorite Mexican football player
In anticipation of the Heat’s game against the Wizards in Mexico City, local reporters asked Butler about his familiarity with Mexican soccer.
Butler expressed admiration for Javier Hernández Balcázar, better known as Chicharito, a Mexican striker who currently plays for Liga MX’s C.D. Guadalajara.
“I don’t know many teams, but I do know players. My favorite is Chicharito, he played for the Galaxy,” Butler said (per FootBoom). “I pay attention to the game, and one of my best friends is Mexican, so he always tells me that Mexican players are the best, and I can’t disagree, but Brazil is also very good,” he added.
Chicharito holds multiple records as a Mexican player. With 52 goals, he is the all-time top scorer for the Mexican National Team. He is one of only three Mexicans to have scored in three different World Cups, with two goals in South Africa 2010, one in Brazil 2014 and another in Russia 2018.
Additionally, he is the only active Mexican player to have scored goals in five different leagues: Liga MX, MLS, Bundesliga, La Liga and the Premier League.
