The Pittsburgh Steelers have less than a week to pull off a trade for a wide receiver. The deadline to make a deal is Tuesday.
Four AFC teams have made trades for wide receivers in recent weeks with Amari Cooper going to the Buffalo Bills, Davante Adams added to the New York Jets, DeAndre Hopkins teaming up with the Kansas City Chiefs and Diontae Johnson back in the AFC North with the Baltimore Ravens.
Per Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline, the Steelers are interested in trading for Courtland Sutton with the Denver Broncos, Darius Slayton with the New York Giants or Mike Williams with the New York Jets.
Sutton appears to be the top option for the Steelers, as he’d be familiar with starting quarterback Russell Wilson. Pittsburgh also likes Slayton. Pauline is reporting that Williams is more of a fallback option.
“Williams could be the contingency plan if the Steelers can’t swing a deal for either Slayton or Sutton,” Pauline wrote. “A lot of people don’t feel it’s a great fit, but Pittsburgh wants another pass catcher.”
Williams is having a down season for the Jets. The former first-round pick has only 11 receptions for 160 yards through New York’s first eight games. However, it’s unclear how much of the struggles are on Williams or if he’s having issues connecting with Aaron Rodgers, who tends to prefer certain players.
Williams would bring the Steelers veteran experience. The 30-year-old has 320 receptions for 4,966 yards and 31 touchdowns in his eight-year NFL career.
