On March 15, 2024, Russell Wilson inked a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the veteran’s minimum of $1.2 million.
The Pittsburgh Steelers achieved a 26-18 victory against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. With the win, the Steelers extended their dominance on Monday night football, marking the 22nd consecutive home win.
Russell Wilson has been effective and maintains an undefeated record as a starter for the Steelers. Wilson, supposed to be the starting quarterback ahead of the season, picked up an injury ahead of the start. The injury to Wilson handed the baton to Justin Fields, who had been excellent in his role, keeping a winning record in the first six games of the season.
Wilson came back to the foray against the New York Jets. Wilson made a spectacle of a comeback by recording the highest number of yards covered by a Steelers’ quarterback on their debut. He also led the Steelers to their highest point margin since the retirement of legend Ben Roethlisberger. Wilson continued his magical run against the other New York team, The Giants on Monday night.
There was a lot of concern before Wilson took the stage for the Steelers. The quarterback, despite enormous pressure, came through perfectly for the Pittsburgh team. The performances haven’t gone unnoticed either. Stephen A. Smith, famed NFL broadcaster, expressed confidence in Wilson after the Giants game in a clip posted by First Take.

Smith noted that Wilson has formed result-oriented connections with the receivers. For example, in a brief period, Wilson and George Pickens recorded nine receptions for nearly 200 yards (185 to be precise). There were even two touchdowns – a nullified one and an overturned chance as well.
Stephen A. Smith contends that Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers are Super Bowl threats
Mike Tomlin, the bold and savage Steelers coach, hasn’t faced a losing season so far. The Steelers have made it 11 consecutive playoff appearances and Smith thinks that they might take it a notch higher this year.
In a segment on First Take, Smith had this to say about the Steelers outfit. He noted that he didn’t mean to say that they were the favorites to win the championship. However, he expressed that they exhibited some impressive quality and proved to be a threat to the other AFC and NFC teams.

TJ Watt had a clinical performance on Monday. The Steelers can make the run possible if Wilson keeps on nourishing the bond they have between him and the receivers. It is also beneficial to know that there’s a pretty strong contender if Wilson fails to play.
