The Dallas Cowboys came off a bye and suffered an embarrassing loss right away at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara on Sunday night. The Cowboys lost to San Francisco, 30-24, but the final score alone fails to paint just how much Dak Prescott and company were dominated by the host team on both ends of the field.
With their latest loss, the Cowboys dropped below .500 with a 3-4 record, which is just good enough for third in the NFC East division through eight weeks of football.
After the Niners game, Prescott admitted an elevated level of disappointment within his team.
“Nobody is shaken or giving up,” Prescott told reporters during the postgame press conference, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “Frustration is very high. It’s a long season.”

The Cowboys had a four-point lead at the end of the first half but entered the fourth quarter trailing San Francisco by 17 points after the 49ers exploded for 21 unanswered points in the third period. The Cowboys tried to stage a miracle comeback in the fourth quarter, but their effort was not enough to overcome the huge deficit.
Prescott recorded 243 passing yards and two touchdowns but also got picked off twice and completed just 25 of his 38 passes. Dallas’ ground attack was anemic as well, as the Cowboys came up with only 56 rushing yards on 19 carries. Dallas produced only 292 total yards from scrimmage, while San Francisco racked up 469 yards of its own.
The Cowboys will look to turn things around and get back to .500 in Week 9 when they visit Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
