The Steelers QB and WR duo are on the same page.
The Pittsburgh Steelers saw an offensive explosion in Week 7 against the New York Jets, scoring 37 points en route to a 22-point win.
One of those touchdowns came off a Russell Wilson touchdown pass to George Pickens, marking Wilson’s first touchdown as a Steeler and Pickens’ first touchdown of the season.
Wilson joined The Jim Rome Show and talked about his relationship with Pickens, raving about his talent,
“First of all, this guy is an absolute rock star,” Wilson said. “He’s a superstar on the field, all the things he can do. He’s just got such amazing talent. God’s given you amazing talent. Use it all. And also too, understanding that you’re not focused on anything outside, just be focused on the moment.”
Wilson also added that he gets on Pickens for certain things, but that he does it to better the young receiver, and that he’s proud of his maturity.
“I’ve really been harping on George and hard on him and he handles it well,” Wilson said. “He handles it all well. It’s ‘hey we’ve gotta get extra work, man. We’ve gotta get extra work before practice and after practice. We’ve gotta spend time on it. We’ve gotta watch this film. We’ve gotta talk about it. We’ve gotta have conversations.’ And he’s been unbelievable about that. The past couple weeks have been remarkable just watching his maturity, his growth, [and] his mentality.”
The Steelers’ quarterback seems to be giving all the young talent all you could want in a veteran leader, and it’s already paying off on the field. Should it continue to do so, the Steelers will be 6-2 heading into the bye.
