The San Francisco 49ers have not performed as expected this season. With a record of 3-4, they sit at the bottom of the NFC East. The team has faced injuries and may look to add new players to turn things around.
In an article, FanSided’s Safa Shooshtry highlighted three players the 49ers “must” sign, suggesting that they should consider former Green Bay Packers tackle David Bakhtiari.
“It wasn’t that long ago that tackle David Bakhtiari was one of the best in the league,” Shooshtry wrote. “The three-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro offensive lineman has struggled to stay on the field since tearing his ACL in December 2020.”
Bakhtiari signed a four-year, $92 million contract extension with the Packers during the 2020 season. However, since his injury, he has not been able to play regularly, participating in only 13 games over the last three seasons.
He believes he still has the ability to play and was released by the Packers in March.
“In March, the Green Bay Packers released Bakhtiari after 11 seasons. He still feels he has something left in the tank, which he stated on The Adam Schefter Podcast,” Shooshtry wrote.
The 49ers’ offensive line has had difficulties this season. Signing Bakhtiari could be a low-risk move with the chance for significant rewards.
“Right tackle Colton McKivitz has struggled with protecting the quarterback,” Shooshtry mentioned. “While he’s only allowed one sack this season, he’s given up 19 total pressures and six QB hits. Some help at right tackle might be needed.”
Bakhtiari plays as a left tackle, but he might be open to a position change if he wants to get back on the field.
