Earlier this week the Kansas City Chiefs made a move for three-time All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins following a series of injuries to the wide receiver corps.
Star wideout Rashee Rice suffered a brutal knee injury that knocked him out for the season. Meanwhile Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown and Sky Moore are also on injured reserve, leaving the Chiefs without much depth at the position.
While Hopkins hasn’t played at an All-Pro level since 2020, he did have 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns during the 2023 season. He’s taken a significant step back this year with just 15 receptions for 173 yards and one touchdown.
In Kansas City, though, he’ll have a much better quarterback in Patrick Mahomes.
But when will Hopkins play?
Head coach Andy Reid gave a simple answer.
Earlier in the week NFL insider James Palmer suggested the goal was to have Hopkins play this weekend against the Las Vegas Raiders.
“I’m told the Chiefs will get DeAndre Hopkins going as soon as he lands in KC today,” Palmer said. “The goal is to have him play Sunday vs the Raiders per source. They’ll know by the end of the week exactly what he can do. It’s going to be hard to do I’m told, but that’s what they’re planning.”
Well, he is.
When asked if Hopkins would play this week, Reid said, “Why wait, right?”
As if the Chiefs needed any more help to beat the Raiders…
