BREAKING: Miami Dolphins have signed QB C.J. Beathard to the practice squad.

The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed quarterback C.J. Beathard and wide receiver Tarik Black to the practice squad. Additionally, the team released tight end Hayden Rucci from the practice squad.

Beathard is an eight-year NFL veteran, who has appeared in 32 games with 13 starts with San Francisco (2017-20) and Jacksonville (2021-23). He’s completed 340-of-563 passing attempts (60.4 pct.) for 3,886 yards with 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in his career, while rushing for 266 yards on 64 attempts (4.2 avg.) with four touchdowns. He entered the league as a third-round selection (104th overall) by San Francisco in the 2017 NFL Draft. Beathard played collegiately at Iowa (2013-16), where he appeared in 41 games with 28 starts and completed 454-of-782 attempts (58.1 pct.) for 5,562 yards with 40 touchdowns and 19 interceptions in four seasons with the Hawkeyes.

Black, who appeared in one game with the N.Y. Jets in 2021, has spent time on practice squad with Indianapolis (2021), N.Y. Jets (2022) and Baltimore (2023). He entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Indianapolis in 2021. Black finished his collegiate career at Texas in 2020, appearing in eight games and recording 10 receptions for 240 yards (24.0 avg.) and a touchdown that year. He transferred to Texas following the 2019 season from Michigan (2017-19), where he appeared in 21 games and recorded 40 receptions for 507 yards (12.7 avg.) and two touchdowns in three seasons. He finished his collegiate career with 29 games played, 50 receptions for 747 yards (14.9 avg.) and three touchdowns.

Rucci entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Miami on May 10, 2024, and spent the offseason program and training camp with the Dolphins. He played collegiately at Wisconsin, where he appeared in 36 games with 18 starts during four seasons (2020-23). He caught 17 passes for 200 yards (11.8 avg.) and one touchdown for the Badgers and was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2020, 2021 and 2023.
