Former Ravens Pro Bowler Jadeveon Clowney may be on the trade block this season and Chargers, Chiefs are among four possible fits. According to one report, the Panthers could move on from Clowney by the NFL Trade Deadline. Numerous trades have been involving Davante Adams, Amari Cooper and now DeAndre Hopkins in the AFC, so it might be Clowney next since the Panthers are likely to tank at 1-6. However, Bryce Young is returning to cover for Andy Dalton but there’s no guarantee of a playoff anymore since they would have to win every game for the rest of the year for a slim chance.
Originally selected in the 2014 NFL Draft, the veteran hasn’t amassed a ton of production with the Panthers’ defense. To no fault of his own, Carolina took a few hits to their pass-rushing unit earlier this season with Shaq Thompson and Derrick Brown out for the season. This didn’t help Clowney’s time in Carolina as he was probably the only talent to produce. Clowney has just one sack and 12 total tackles on the year so it’s best for the Panthers to move on to recoup some draft capital.
He probably won’t bring in much value since he’s aging and is a journeyman in his career, but he’s still one of the better elite rushers. Last season, he brought in an impressive campaign with the Ravens, recording 9.5 sacks.

Potential Trade Destinations
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers have one of the worst passing offenses in this league. They’re depending on their defense but their tackling game has been non-existent after allowing pretty much any running back to run all over them. Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa are still two solid defenders but they’ve struggling this season so they might need to trade for Clowney who could bring a bigger upside. Jim Harbaugh wants to win football games in the trenches so adding a guy like Clowney could bring that spark to the pass-rushing unit to explode.
Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City are preparing to turn their team into a potential super team after trading for DeAndre Hopkins. However, the defense is getting younger and even though Chris Jones is excelling at his position, the Chiefs still need some veteran balance on both edges. The team knew going into this season that George Karlaftis, Drue Tranquill and Leo Chenal were going to go through growing pains so the presence of Clowney should make him the immediate starter. Clowney doesn’t need to last a full game but his championship experience and veteran status are both checkmarks of what they’re looking for in getting after the quarterback during the postseason.
Baltimore Ravens
This 2024 Ravens roster has the potential to be a Super Bowl contender but the linebacker group got younger with the presence of David Ojabo and Odafe Oweh. They’ve shown a couple of flashes in the absence of Clowney. However, many sources are urging the Ravens to bring Clowney back for a championship run. This makes more sense now that the Chiefs brought in superstar power on the offensive side so the Ravens should figure out a way to bring talent on the defensive side of things to dethrone Patrick Mahomes’ passing attack.
Detroit Lions
After losing Aidan Hutchinson, the Lions are still scrambling for an answer for their pass-rushing unit. Even though Hutchinson could return for the Super Bowl, they have to get through the playoffs and Clowney could be a capable defensive piece to do it. He won’t drastically change the defense but it would be a nice breath of fresh air for the entire defense who is still dangerous for opposing offenses.
