This offseason, the Dallas Cowboys front office made many mistakes but the biggest one was not going after Derrick Henry, who publicly expressed his desire to play with them. Their loss becomes somebody’s win and in this case, it was the Baltimore Ravens– who acquired the star running back.

Seeing the Ravens’ solid passing game and 5-2 season standing, the Cowboys have been receiving all kinds of criticism for the incompetent passing game after losing the NFL’s leading pass rusher. Amid increasing criticism, owner Jerry Jones has been attempting to deflect attention from the Cowboys’ offseason mistakes, including the choice not to pursue the four-time Pro Bowler.

Returning to the Dallas radio show, 105.3 The Fan after threatening the jobs of the hosts, Jones said that Henry would not have been fit in the offense led by quarterback Dak Prescott. Defending the team’s decision, the 82-year-old believes Henry would not have achieved success in Dallas as he did in Baltimore.

I don’t know if he’d be having a career year in our situationWe don’t run that type of offense at all… Derrick Henry didn’t fit [because of] managing the [salary] cap.

Previously when Jones addressed the reason why the Cowboys didn’t go after the All-Pro receiver, he claimed the America’s Team didn’t have the salary cap to acquire him, after signing Prescott, and CeeDee Lamb is the highest and second-highest contracts in the league, respectively.

Ravens lead NFL in rushing offense thanks to Derrick Henry’s explosive play

While defending the team’s offseason inactivity, the 82-year-old owner said he wasn’t surprised by the star running back’s impressive outing in week 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Recording 169 yards and 15 rushing attempts, Henry led his team to a 41-31 victory.

Courtesy of Henry, the Ravens are leading the league in rushing offense and the running back is leading the NFL in several key rushing categories this season– ranking first in rushes, rushing touchdowns, yards per rush, rushing first downs, longest rush, scrimmage yards, and scrimmage touchdowns.

Additionally, he has the highest stats in rushing yards with 873 yards on 6.5 yards per carry and eight touchdowns. With this outing, he is also the favorite to win the 2024 Offensive Player of the Year honor.
