LeBron James and Bronny James made history on Tuesday night as they became the first-ever father-son duo to take the court together in the NBA. To make the moment even more special, LeBron checked into the game alongside his son as the crowd gave a loud ovation.
Bronny only received three minutes of action but also moved to 1-0 in his NBA career after the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 110-103 at Crypto.com Arena.
Lakers center Anthony Davis was the star of the show, recording a game-high 36 points on 11-of-23 shooting, 16 rebounds and three blocks.
Following the win, Davis, the former Kentucky Wildcats star, spoke to reporters for a postgame interview. When discussing the big moment for LeBron and Bronny, he made an admission that captured the attention of many fans.
“This is the first time we had a LeBron moment that was something huge and we won,” Davis said. “Every other we’ve always lost, so it kind of kills the moment. But it was a special moment for everybody.”
This quote from Davis was a subtle nod to when LeBron broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s NBA scoring record two seasons ago. Even with the career mark, the game ended with a Lakers 133-130 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Los Angeles also lost the contests where LeBron passed Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Karl Malone in career points.
Bronny finished his NBA debut with zero points on 0-of-2 shooting and a rebound. His biggest highlight came on his first defensive possession, where he forced Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards to take a tough shot, leading to a miss.
In the loss, Edwards notched a team-high 27 points on 40% shooting, six rebounds and three assists. Forward Julius Randle made his debut for Minnesota after being traded from the New York Knicks, tallying 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Lakers will get two more games at home against the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings before heading East for their first road trip of the season starting Monday, Oct. 28.
