Mount has been out of action since United’s 3-0 defeat by Tottenham in late September when he came on as a half-time substitute for Kobbie Mainoo and then went off towards the end after a collision with Radu Dragusin that also left him with a cut head.

The 25-year-old has missed the previous seven games, including Sunday’s tie at Old Trafford against his old team, Chelsea. During that period, manager Erik ten Hag was fired, and Ruud van Nistelrooy was named temporary manager until November 11 when Amorim took over.

Mount has only made 25 appearances in 16 months since joining United from Chelsea in July of last year due to a string of injuries, most notably a calf ailment that sidelined him for four months during the previous campaign.
