Striker Karim Benzema gives his opinion on the results of the Ballon d’Or award vote.
Over the past few days, the 2024 Ballon d’Or award has created a series of different controversial controversies . Reversing many previous predictions, Rodri was the overall winner, surpassing Vinicius Junior.
That immediately led to a boycott from all members of Real Madrid , from players, coaches to president Florentino Perez.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti, stars such as Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eder Militao have all spoken out in support of Vinicius . Recently, former Los Blancos striker Karim Benzema also joined the debate.
Benzema backs Vinicius.
Looking back, Benzema won the Ballon d’Or in 2022. The French striker played brilliantly on Real Madrid’s journey to winning the Champions League and La Liga.
Benzema left the club last summer after 14 years of winning trophies. Football 365 quoted Benzema’s statement on the Ballon d’Or voting results:
“I spoke to Vinicius, he was sad… It’s normal. He deserved the Ballon d’Or. Of course, I have nothing against Rodri. He’s a great player. But the truth is that Rodri doesn’t make me go ‘wow’ every time I see him play.”
Despite the questions and doubts; Rodri affirmed his talent for both Manchester City and the Spanish national team. The 28-year-old midfielder shone on the team’s journey to the Premier League championship last season.
At the national team level, Rodri played impressively when Spain won EURO 2024. Currently, the 28-year-old midfielder will miss the rest of the season due to injury. After 9 rounds of the Premier League this season, Man City occupies the top position in the rankings .
