Barcelona midfielder will sign his new contract until 2029 today
In a major positive development, FC Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has agreed to sign a new contract with the club which will run until the summer of 2029, Jijantes reports.
In fact, if there are no changes in plans, the 21-year-old will sign the contract today itself and an official announcement will follow.
One of the La Masia stars to break into the first-team setup in the past couple of seasons, Fermin has established himself as a household name in a short period.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder was excellent in his debut season under Xavi in 2023/24, scoring ten goals.
Things only continued to get better for Fermin as he first won the UEFA Euro 2024 with Spain before spearheading La Roja’s charge to the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
It has taken some time for him to get going in the new season under Hansi Flick due to injuries, but last week’s performance against Bayern Munich showcased how he can be a huge success in the German tactician’s setup.
Fermin’s rise in prominence and status within the team led Barcelona to consider offering him a new contract even though he had signed a new deal last year only.
With negotiations having taken place in the past few weeks, an agreement was already reached barring some final details which have been taken care of now.
As such, everything is ready for Fermin to sign his new contract at the club until 2029 which he is likely to do today after training, with his agents already arriving at the club facilities.
Fermin has attracted interest from some other European giants of late and as such, a renewal shows Barcelona’s faith in him and secures his long-term future at the club.
