‘That’s what I’m here for’ – Ruud van Nistelrooy sends ‘strong’ message to Ruben Amorim after help Man Utd crush Leicester City

Ruud van Nistelrooy discussed his Manchester United future after the Dutchman made a winning start to life as interim manager.

United recorded a convincing 5-2 win over Leicester City on Wednesday as goals from Casemiro [2], Bruno Fernandes [2] and Alejandro Garnacho sealed their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Ahead of the clash at Old Trafford, the biggest talking point has been Ruben Amorim’s future as he looks set to succeed Erik ten Hag as the next permanent manager.

United have already informed Sporting CP of their intention to activate Amorim’s release clause of around €10 million [£8.3m] after he verbally agreed to take arguably the most pressurised job in football.

But for the time being, former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge on a temporary basis – and he made a great first impression on Wednesday night.

Speaking after the full-time whistle, the former United striker was asked if he was open to staying.

“Of course,” he told Sky Sports. “I came here as an assistant to help the club. Now in this role, I’m helping as long as needed. In the future in any capacity, I’m here to help the club further to build towards the future that’s what I’m here for.”

Van Nistelrooy reiterated his desire to work under the next manager, whether than be Ruben Amorim or another candidate.

He added: “I’m here to help and serve and give my everything for the club in any capacity with so many people here around me that want the best for the club and that will never change.”

After United stated that the Dutchman will assume pre-match media responsibilities before to the Premier League fixture, Van Nistelrooy is expected to be in control of Sunday’s contest against Chelsea.

Journalist Ben Jacobs, meanwhile, says Portuguese sources ‘insist’ a statement might be made as early as Thursday, confirming that Amorim will remain at Sporting until November 10.

Along with Emanuel Ferro and sports scientist Paulo Barreira, Amorin is anticipated to bring Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, and Jorge Vital to Old Trafford as part of his backroom team at United.
