Ange Postecoglou landed in north London with Heung-min Son at his disposal but there have been plenty of of high profile players to come before him.
It has been a story of inconsistency for Tottenham this season with the Lilywhites failing to nail down any kind of positive form of late.
There are plenty of reasons to be positive, though, with Postecoglou so excited by Archie Gray after what he’s seen from the youngster.
But there are certainly a few players from the club’s past that the Australian would gladly have taken to bolster his starting XI in north London.
Gareth Bale hailed as better than Ronaldinho and Neymar
Spurs have seen some huge names come and go over the years with Harry Kane marking their latest big-name departure last year.
Liverpool’s Harvey Barnes suggested Kane is better than Mohamed Salah recently and there’s now a former Liverpool player also hailing another former Spurs attacker.
Speaking to Daily Mail Sport, Steve McManaman has claimed former Spurs and Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale was better than a host of legends to play the game.
Here is a list of the players who McManaman said he would rate the Wales legend higher than:
- Vinicius Jr
- Neymar Jr
- Mohamed Salah
- Arjen Robben
- Ronaldinho
Ironically, the Spurs legend in question may have repaid the favour with Bale predicting Liverpool to win the Premier League this season.
But McManaman isn’t the only person to hail the Welsh wizard, with Steven Bergwijn rating Bale higher than Thierry Henry in a similar social media game not too long ago.

Bale aimed golf jibe at Real Madrid
For the first time since his retirement, Bale landed a television role for the Liverpool vs Real Madrid game during the week.
The Welshman was a hugely popular figure in north London with Daniel Levy hailing Bale as one of his favourite Spurs players from his time as chairman.
But it was not all sunshine and trophies for Bale during his time in Madrid, which saw a fair bit of backlash from the fans surrounding his off-field hobbies.
During the TNT Sports broadcast, Bale admitted he is enjoying retirement life where he has been able to pursue his interest in playing golf without any headlines being made from it.
“I’m actually getting to play golf now, rather than people writing about it,” he said.
