Reporters leave Iga Swiatek stunned by unexpected WTA Finals qualification update
Iga Swiatek was surprised to learn she hadn’t reached the WTA Finals semifinals despite winning two of her three group-stage matches. Swiatek’s title defense ended after Coco Gauff, who initially led their group, lost 5-7, 4-6 to Barbora Krejcikova. Though Swiatek, Krejcikova, and Gauff won two matches each, the Pole missed out due to the lowest set percentage.
After her 6-1, 6-0 win over Daria Kasatkina, reporters informed Swiatek that the result didn’t affect her chances, leaving her briefly stunned before reacting with humor.
