Novak Djokovic’s wife, Jelena, recently revealed the story about how their son Stefan and their daughter Tara ‘childishly brag’ about who their father is. Djokovic and Jelena got engaged in 2013 in Monte Carlo and tied the knot a year later in 2014 in a small coastal town in Montenegro. The couple have two children – Stefan, born on October 22, 2014, and Tara, born three years later in September 2017.
The Serb has always had the support of his family. He can be seen getting cheered by Jelena, Stefan, and Tara from the players’ box during most Grand Slam tournaments. Most recently, they were spotted cheering him on at Roland Garros when he secured his second Olympic medal, a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In a recent interview with Spanish outlet La Nacion, Jelena shared that Stefan and Tara understand that their father, Novak Djokovic, is a “hard worker” and a highly “respected” individual.
“They [Stefan and Tara] are very young, so they don’t understand a lot of important things that he [Novak Djokovic] represents for people. But they do understand that he is a hard worker and he is very respected. Because they see him when they travel and there are a lot of fans and they see the attention he gets,” Jelena said [translated from Spanish].
Jelena said the children have noticed their father’s fame when they travel and see fans showering him with attention, leading them to childishly boast about him.
“So they understand it. And I can hear them saying, ‘You know who my dad is.’ It’s kind of childish bragging, but the other meaning they are learning through the work of the foundation. Because this is what Novak wants as well, for his legacy to be to change the world for children. Because he once had a dream as a child and he achieved it,” she added.
“The kids love what Novak Djokovic does and are very proud of him” – The Serb’s wife on their children Stefan & Tara
In the aforementioned interview, Novak Djokovic’s wife, Jelena, shared that the Serb has chosen to be selective about the tournaments he competes in. She said:
“He’s now choosing the right places to go. It’s not my business. He’ll do what he wants for as long as he wants. I support him. And the kids love what he does and are very proud of him. In fact, if we can help him stay longer, we will,” Jelena said.
Most recently, Novak Djokovic took part in the Six Kings Slam exhibition tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He was then slated to defend his title at the 2024 Paris Masters starting on October 28. However, it was recently reported that he has withdrawn from the tournament.
