Novak Djokovic has reportedly withdrawn from the 2024 Paris Masters, which is the final Masters 1000 tournament of the ATP season.
Djokovic is a seven-time champion in Paris-Bercy, a record that no other player can match at the indoor event. He is the current defending champion after capturing his 40th Masters title last year.
However, according to reputable Serbian outlet Sporklub, the former World No. 1 has decided to miss the 52nd edition of the Paris Masters, which begins on October 28. That’s not the only big headline, as Djokovic appears to have played his last match of the 2024 season.
Will Novak Djokovic play at the 2024 ATP Finals in Turin?
Djokovic’s absence from the Paris Masters, subject to his official confirmation, will have a significant impact on the ATP Race to Turin.
The Olympic Gold Medalist is currently in sixth place in the race, which factors points accumulated in the 2024 season. He put himself in a position to qualify for the ATP Finals for the seventh year in a row and 17th time overall.
He has already ruled himself out of playing at the Belgrade Open in his home country. By missing the Paris Masters, Djokovic is unlikely to enter another ATP event this season.
The Shanghai Masters looks like it will be the final ATP tournament of his season. He is less than 600 points ahead of Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, and Alex de Minaur, who are well-placed to surpass him in the race.
A few weeks ago, he explained his decision to play a limited schedule and that he was not obsessed with making the trip to Turin next month, as that was no longer his priority at this stage of his career. His goals, he says, are Grand Slams and representing his country in team competitions.
If he doesn’t play in the Paris Masters, as reported, Djokovic will most likely not play in the ATP Finals next month. However, he could still change his mind if he qualifies, as he is the defending champion in Turin. He will also attempt to retain a Top 10 position by year-end.
Has Djokovic Played His Last Match Of 2024?
Djokovic’s most recent tournament was the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he finished third place after defeating his great rival Rafael Nadal. If he intends to shut down his season, the earliest we might see the 24-time Grand Slam champion in action will be at the 2025 Australian Open.
