The\u00a0Kansas City Chiefs\u00a0are 9-0, but knowing general manager Brett Veach and this front office, they\u2019re also never satisfied when it comes to bolstering their organizational depth.<\/p>\n
Heading into Week 11, the weakest areas of their roster are probably\u00a0left tackle\u00a0and cornerback \u2014 and\u00a0Bleacher Report analyst Alex Ballentine urged KC\u00a0to reinforce the latter on November 11.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Chiefs have to be considered major winners of the\u00a0NFL\u00a0trade deadline,\u201d Ballentine began. \u201cDeAndre Hopkins\u00a0is already making a huge difference [at wide receiver] and\u00a0Josh Uche\u00a0strengthens the pass rush by giving them another threat on the outside.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe only major need that went unaddressed is the lack of cornerback depth,\u201d the analyst went on. \u201cThe Chiefs are going to need cornerbacks not named\u00a0Trent McDuffie\u00a0to play well for the team to three-peat as Super Bowl champs.\u201d<\/p>\n
That\u2019s where his free agent suggestion came in. Ballentine believes the Chiefs should reunite with veteran cornerback and former first-team All-Pro\u00a0Marcus Peters\u00a0\u2014 who\u00a0last suited up\u00a0for the\u00a0Las Vegas Raiders\u00a0in 2023.<\/p>\n
\u201cMarcus Peters did not look good for the Raiders last season,\u201d Ballentine acknowledged, \u201cbut Peters spent the first three years of his career in Kansas City. Playing for a contender could give him just a little more life as he finishes out his career.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peters would also be a low-risk flyer that would likely start out on the practice squad if he were to return.<\/p>\n
Chiefs Should Pursue Veteran Cornerback Ahead of 2024 NFL Playoffs<\/h2>\n
While it\u2019s debatable if Peters is the right choice, it\u2019s pretty clear that the Chiefs should at least look into signing a veteran cornerback.<\/p>\n
ESPN NFL insider\u00a0Jeremy Fowler reported\u00a0that\u00a0Kansas City was \u201cmonitoring\u201d a CB deal\u00a0at the trade deadline \u2014 and they were later\u00a0connected to Marshon Lattimore\u00a0\u2014 but the right offer never materialized. Still, that tells you that the Chiefs are well-aware that there is room for improvement at the position.<\/p>\n
Nazeeh Johnson\u00a0started across from McDuffie in Week 10, and he allowed 54 receiving yards and 75% of his targets to be caught according\u00a0to Pro Football Focus. McDuffie struggled too, allowing 67 yards and a reception rate of 62.5%.<\/p>\n
Respectively,\u00a0Denver Broncos\u00a0rookie quarterback\u00a0Bo Nix\u00a0threw for a passer rating of 128.6 and 116.7 when targeting McDuffie and Johnson \u2014 and they\u2019re the best Kansas City\u2019s got.<\/p>\n
Joshua Williams\u00a0has been shaky when called upon and the lack of depth behind those three at outside CB is very apparent. After one or two more injuries, the Chiefs could be trusting in\u00a0Keith Taylor\u00a0or\u00a0Darius Rush\u00a0to step in. That\u2019s not ideal when matching up against top-tier talent throughout the playoffs.<\/p>\n
Xavien Howard Headlines Top Free Agent CB Options Left on the Market<\/h2>\n
Baseball observers predict that Japanese pitching phenom Roki Sasaki may head to the Los Angeles Dodgers if he gets posted by his Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) team, the Chiba Lotte Marines.
\nSasaki, 23, is projected to head stateside in the 2025 MLB season, potentially joining fellow Japanese superstars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the Los Angeles team, according to ESPN. Sasaki, who gained international attention with a 19-strikeout perfect game, eight perfect innings and 14 strikeouts in 2022, is among the \u201cmost sought-after players available,\u201d the outlet noted.
\nA native of Rikuzentakata in Iwate Prefecture, Sasaki reportedly declined a deal with the Chiba Lotte Marines, which he has been a part of since 2019, earlier this week. Over his four seasons in the NPB, Sasaki recorded a 2.02 earned run average (ERA) with 524 strikeouts in 414 2\/3 innings.
\nWhile his prospect of joining the Dodgers is possible, some scouts speculate that he may start in a smaller market. Additionally, there is a possibility that NPB may not post Sasaki this postseason, as doing so may not be beneficial for them. Under MLB rules, foreign-born players under 25 years old with fewer than six seasons of professional experience are subject to international bonus restrictions.
\nThe most talented free agent cornerback that\u2019s currently available is probably\u00a0Xavien Howard. The\u00a0Cincinnati Bengals\u00a0\u201cmade [Howard] an offer\u201d on November 11 according\u00a0to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, but apparently it was not up to the veteran\u2019s liking.<\/p>\n
Per Garafolo, the two sides were \u201cunable to reach an agreement\u201d and Howard has now returned home to continue training.<\/p>\n
If Howard is too expensive, a few other available veterans would be\u00a0Patrick Peterson,\u00a0J.C. Jackson\u00a0and\u00a0K\u2019Waun Williams.<\/p>\n
The Chiefs could also attempt to lure someone like\u00a0Steven Nelson\u00a0out of retirement, but the choices are few and far between and Peters is certainly one of the better candidates if he\u2019s still in football shape.<\/p>\n
To show how valuable experienced CBs are at the moment, the\u00a0San Francisco 49ers quickly snatched up Nick McCloud\u00a0after the\u00a0New York Giants\u00a0cut him last week. KC could also scour opposing practice squads around the league, but the issue with that route is that they\u2019d have to sign a poached player directly to their 53-man roster \u2014 and they\u2019re unlikely to find an upgrade on Johnson or Joshua Williams on another practice squad.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, it\u2019s slim pickings at cornerback right now. Bringing in the right free agent could be the best course of action.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
