Miami Dolphins quarterback\u00a0Tua Tagovailoa\u00a0is set to return to practice Wednesday after missing the last four games as a result of suffering another concussion.<\/p>\n
Tagovailoa will still need to clear concussion protocol in order to play in Sunday\u2019s home game against the Arizona\u00a0Cardinals\u00a0at Hard Rock Stadium.<\/p>\n
The 26-year-old said it was his choice to return to play football and understands people\u2019s worry that he may get hurt again.<\/p>\n
\u201cI appreciate your\u00a0concern,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Tagovailoa told reporters\u00a0Monday. \u201cI really do. I love this game and I love it to the death of me. That\u2019s it.\u201d<\/p>\n Tagovailoa said he would not wear a Guardian\u00a0Cap,\u00a0a soft-shell helmet covering,\u00a0saying it\u2019s \u201ca personal choice.\u201d<\/p>\n When asked how much risk he is taking playing again after suffering multiple concussions, Tagovailoa said, \u201cHow much risk do we take when we get up in the morning to go drive to work? Can get in a car crash.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cEvery time we all suit up, we\u2019re all taking a risk that we could potentially get hurt, whether it\u2019s a concussion, a broken bone, anything you get up off of the bed the wrong way, you potentially could risk you spraining your ankle. There\u2019s just risk in any and everything and I\u2019m willing to play the odds.\u201d<\/p>\n Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters medical experts \u201cdeemed it safe\u201d for Tagovailoa\u2019s return.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t mess with timelines or try to overcook or forecast. You lean on experts for matters of the career and that\u2019s what we\u2019re doing here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n McDaniel said Tagovailoa does need to protect himself better on the field.<\/p>\n \u201cI think he has a better understanding of his responsibility towards the entire organization at this point \u2026 and feels tremendous responsibility to do anything in his power to be on the field, so part of that is protecting yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n McDaniel added: \u201cHe has to be able to protect himself, for him to regardless of the first down conversion that he\u2019s trying to get, for him to be on the field with his team that he needs to be smart about how he engages in contact.\u201d<\/p>\n Tagovailoa suffered another concussion on September 12 when he dove for a first down and took a\u00a0hit\u00a0from Bills safety Damar Hamlin.
