Prediction has Yankees acquiring Brendan Rodgers<\/p>\n

The\u00a0New York Yankees\u00a0lost to the\u00a0Los Angeles Dodgers\u00a0in five games to lose the World Series.<\/p>\n

With the World Series being handed out, the MLB offseason is now in full force and the Yankees have plenty of major questions. The biggest is the future of\u00a0Juan Soto\u00a0who\u2019s a pending free agent. But, another is the future of starting second baseman Gleyber Torres who\u2019s a pending free agent.<\/p>\n

MLB analyst Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report has the Yankees letting Torres walk in free agency, as he predicts New York will trade for Brendan Rodgers from the\u00a0Colorado Rockies.<\/p>\n

\u201cRodgers has never quite lived up to being the No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 draft, but he has been a productive player when healthy,\u201d Reuter\u00a0wrote in his article\u00a0listing Rodgers as a trade fit for the Yankees. \u201cHe won the NL Gold Glove at second base during a 4.3-WAR season in 2022, and he hit .267\/.314\/.407 with 29 doubles, 13 home runs and 54 RBI in 135 games this past season. He would team with Anthony Volpe to form one of the best defensive middle infields in baseball.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rodgers\u00a0was selected third overall in the 2015 MLB draft\u00a0by the Rockies. However, as Reuter writes, Rodgers would be more of a defensive player for the Yankees, rather than add offense to the lineup.<\/p>\n

The second baseman has\u00a0one year left on his deal that pays him $6.77 million.<\/p>\n

Torres Wanted to be a Yankee For Life<\/h2>\n

Torres\u00a0was acquired\u00a0by the Yankees in the Aroldis Chapman deal from the\u00a0Chicago Cubs\u00a0in 2016.<\/p>\n

The second baseman made his MLB debut with New York in the 2018 season. Torres has been a key figure for the Yankees and ahead of the 2024 season, which was the final year of his deal, the infielder said he wanted to be a Yankee for life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to leave,\u201d Torres\u00a0said back in February. \u201cI want to be a Yankee for life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Torres said he wanted to remain in New York, he admitted he wasn\u2019t sure what his future was.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t lie,\u201d Torres said. \u201cI just think sometimes maybe that I\u2019m starting my last year here because I don\u2019t know what\u2019s the business plan next year. But, man, it\u2019s just like, motivate myself. Like I always say, we play for another team sometimes, and it\u2019s a business.\u201d<\/p>\n

Torres ended up playing in 154 games for the Yankees in 2024\u00a0hitting .257 with 15 home runs and 63 RBIs. In the playoffs, he hit .241 with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs.<\/p>\n

Yankees Errors Cost Team in World Series<\/h2>\n

If New York does trade for Rodgers, it would boost the Yankees\u2019 defensive play. Rodgers won the Gold Glove in 2022 and committed only 8 errors last season.<\/p>\n

In Game 5 of the World Series, the Yankees committed 3 errors which proved to be the difference as it led to Los Angeles tying the game in the 5th inning.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just took advantage of every mistake that they made that inning,\u201d Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hern\u00e1ndez\u00a0said\u00a0after Game 5 about the Yankees errors. \u201cWe put some good at-bats together, we put the ball in play. A lot of people say \u2018When you put the ball in play, things might happen.\u2019 It happened to us in that inning and we scored five runs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Yankees\u00a0committed 90 errors as a team in 2024\u00a0and were led by Torres who committed a team-high 18.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
