Jerry Jones fires back at comments about sun impacting Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium

Dallas Cowboysย owner Jerry Jones is not worried about the sun impacting AT&T Stadium when his team plays. After the teamโ€™s 34-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Jones shared some interesting comments about the issue that is not new.

โ€œBy the way, we know where the sun is going to be when we decide to flip the coin or not. We do know where the damn sun is going to be in our own stadium,โ€ย Jones said, per Jon Machota ofย The Athletic.

And when asked why not put curtains over the windows, Jones stated, โ€œWell letโ€™s tear the damn stadium down and build another one? Are you kidding me? โ€œEverybody has got the same thing. Every team that comes in here has the same issues. โ€œIโ€™m saying, the world knows where the sun is. You get to know that almost a year in advance. Someone asked me about the sun. What about the sun? Whereโ€™s the moon?โ€

The sun was an issue on Sunday as Cowboys wide receiverย CeeDee Lambย missed a three-yard touchdown reception because he couldnโ€™t see the ball. AT&T Stadium is built differently than most NFL stadiums as the endzones lie toward the east and west, and the windows invite sunlight to shine on the field. This is why most stadiums have endzones that lie toward the north and south.

Jerry Jones is not worried about the sun impacting games

This isnโ€™t the first time the sun impacted a Cowboys home game. During the 2022 preseason, the Cowboys face the San Francisco 49ers. Quarterbackย Dak Prescottย threw a pass to WRย Cedrick Wilson who didnโ€™t attempt to catch the ball. The reason for that was the sun disrupted his vision. The Cowboys lost the game 23-17.

AT&T Stadium has blackout curtains they used for other events. But Jones doesnโ€™t think itโ€™s a big issue since he believes it also impacts the opponent.

โ€œI wish to hell all I had to worry about was a ball hitting the screen or a little sun getting in there,โ€ Jones said in a 2022 interview on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM],ย per WFAA. โ€œConditions and elements have been a part of football since it was spelled the first time. No. Thatโ€™s about 10,000 on my list of things to worry about. And, no, weโ€™re not going to do anything with it.โ€
