The Kansas City Chiefs collectively held their breath Monday night when Patrick Mahomes crumbled to the ground after suffering an apparent ankle injury while tossing a touchdown pass, on the run, in the second half of an overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, after being helped off the field by members of the Chiefs’ medical staff, Mahomes returned to the game and ultimately led the game-winning drive in overtime to secure a 30-24 victory.
“When you have a little bit of a roll, it’s a little bit sore,” Mahomes old reporters. “But I’m able to move around and look forward to getting out to practice and seeing how I can push it as the week goes on.”
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters Friday that Mahomes “hasn’t missed anything,” as Kansas City prepares for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead.
Mahomes passed for 291 yards with three touchdowns against the Buccaneers, and now looks to pick up a divisional victory over the Broncos to both stay undefeated on the 2024 campaign and extend the Chiefs’ lead in the AFC West race.
So far this season, Mahomes has completed 69.9 percent of his passes for 1,942 yards with 11 touchdowns to nine interceptions.
