This past Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys came up just short of pulling off a miraculous comeback against their rival San Francisco 49ers, losing 30-24.
San Francisco pulled away with a 21-point third-quarter outburst, which ended up featuring the most controversial play of the game. On a third-and-short situation with San Francisco trailing 10-6, Brock Purdy hit tight end George Kittle over the middle, who took the short pass 43 yards to the Dallas four.
He was pushed out of bounds by Dallas’ Trevon Diggs, but Mike Leslie of WFAA in Dallas took to X to question Diggs’ effort on the play. A post that led to Diggs confronting Leslie outside of the locker room, and going as far as to tell Leslie they could “Talk about Deez Nuts” after he attempted to get clarity on the play.
On Wednesday, it appears all is well between the two as Diggs gifted Leslie a can of nuts, and both the star corner and Dallas sports anchor apologized to one another.
Leslie also provided context on the situation, saying Diggs apologized for his reaction to Leslie’s post and explained why it appeared he was jogging on the play.
“Trevon Diggs and I have cleared the air,” Leslie wrote. “He apologized for the hallway incident, and I apologized for misreading the play — he explained that what I interpreted as him jogging was in fact him slow-playing a potential cutback from George Kittle. We buried the hatchet with a couple canisters of Dee’s Nuts, that he presented to me after his interview with press was complete.”
Leslie posted a video of the Wednesday interaction between him and Diggs but was informed by the Cowboys PR department that it “violated” the team’s social media policy.
While the Cowboys probably wish this never happened altogether, they likely are thrilled this is behind them. Dallas is currently third in the NFC East, and its next three opponents all rank within the top 10 in the NFL in terms of best records, with two of them having the best record in their respective divisions.
This could very well be the most brutal stretch of their schedule, and having off-the-field distractions take one of their best player’s focus off of that could have been catastrophic.
Dallas (3-4) will hit the road again on Sunday, heading to Atlanta to take on the Falcons (5-3) at 1:00 PM ET in a game that will air on Fox.
