The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a 134-110 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, their second straight loss in a five-game road trip.
Despite the struggles from the Lakers, all eyes were rookie Bronny James when he entered the game in the fourth quarter.
Los Angeles was down double digits early in the game and never found a way to recover. Given the one-sided contest in favor of the Cavaliers, fans at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse had just one request.
They chanted, “We want Bronny,” and Lakers head coach JJ Redick delivered.
After a few minutes on the court, Bronny James scored a turnaround basket that had the entire stadium on its feet. He scored the bucket with just over two minutes remaining while being guarded by Cavaliers forward Jaylon Tyson.
Bronny James finished the night with two points, two assists and one steal, shooting 1-of-2 from the field.
Bronny James entered the season as the No. 55 overall pick from the 2024 NBA draft. He’s set to be a two-way player for the Lakers, spending some time in the G League, but the 20-year-old made the trip to his hometown on Wednesday.
With the basket against Cleveland, Bronny James and his father, LeBron James, become the highest-scoring father-son duo in NBA history.
It made a joking stat since they’re the only father-son duo to ever play, but it’s a great representation of LeBron James’ longevity and Bronny James’ commitment to being a pro.
LeBron James finished the matchup with 26 points, six rebounds and three assists. The Lakers forward had a big-time bounce-back game after posting just 11 points while shooting 21.4% from the field in Los Angeles’ previous loss to the Phoenix Suns.
After LeBron James bounced back, it’s time for the Lakers to do the same. They’ll have a chance to win in Canada when they travel to Toronto for a matchup against the Raptors on Nov. 1.
