Boston’s Alex Cora ejected after blowing fuse about interference call vs. Twins

It didn’t take long for the Red Sox manager to get tossed on Sunday.

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora was ejected in the first inning against the Minnesota Twins in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday at Fenway Park.

It stemmed from Boston starting pitcher Nick Pivetta attempting to pick off the Twins’ Byron Buxton from second base as second baseman Vaughn Grissom applied the tag.

Minnesota’s manager Rocco Baldelli immediately ran onto the field to make a claim for interference with home plate umpire Sean Barber, who gathered the rest of the umpiring crew briefly before making the interference call and awarding Buxton third base.

Grissom appeared to drop his knee in front of the bag as Buxton attempted to get back.

Cora leapt out of the dugout and was animated, eventually escalating it to running out to second base and bumping chests with one of the umpires while trying to get to Barber.
